AIIA New Delhi has launched the six-month Garbhini Mitra course for 2026–27. Check eligibility, August 31 deadline, curriculum and career opportunities.

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has introduced a new six-month course, ‘Garbhini Mitra’, aimed at strengthening Ayurveda-based maternal wellness support during pregnancy and the postnatal period.

The course has been introduced for the 2026–27 academic session and is designed to create a trained pool of personnel who can provide health education, lifestyle guidance and community-level support to women during pregnancy and after childbirth.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, the programme seeks to combine traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with practical support for maternal wellness. It will focus on educating candidates about appropriate lifestyle practices and traditional approaches that can support women during the antenatal and postnatal stages.

Who Can Apply for Garbhini Mitra Course?

Candidates aged 18 years or above are eligible to apply for the programme, provided they have passed the Senior Secondary examination from a recognised board.

The ministry has stated that the last date to apply is August 31, 2026.

The six-month duration is intended to provide candidates with focused training in maternal wellness and the application of relevant Ayurvedic concepts in community and institutional settings.

What Will Students Learn?

A key component of the course is exposure to traditional Ayurvedic concepts associated with reproductive and maternal care.

The curriculum includes:

The programme is expected to help candidates understand how these traditional concepts can be communicated and supported in appropriate healthcare and wellness settings.

Career Opportunities After the Course

After completing the programme, candidates can work in support-oriented roles across different Ayurveda and wellness institutions.

Potential roles include:

These trained personnel can potentially work across AYUSH centres, maternity clinics, wellness institutions and other relevant healthcare settings, subject to the scope of their training and applicable institutional requirements.

Why the Garbhini Mitra Course Matters

Pregnancy and the postnatal period require continuous access to reliable health information, appropriate lifestyle guidance and supportive care. The new programme is intended to create trained personnel who can provide such support at the community level while drawing on established Ayurvedic concepts.

The initiative also reflects the broader effort to expand the role of Ayurveda and AYUSH-based wellness approaches and develop trained human resources in the sector.

However, the role of Garbhini Mitra personnel is primarily supportive and educational. Medical diagnosis, treatment and management of pregnancy-related complications should continue to be undertaken by qualified healthcare professionals.

The launch of the course for the 2026–27 academic session marks a new step in developing trained human resources for Ayurveda-based maternal wellness support.
