BRICS New Delhi Declaration unanimously recognises the role of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Universal Health Coverage, says Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav.

New Delhi: Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav said that the BRICS New Delhi Declaration has unanimously recognised the importance of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

According to the minister, the consensus reached in the declaration has also paved the way for the formation of an Expert Working Group under BRICS to further strengthen cooperation in the field of traditional and complementary medicine.

Traditional Medicine Gets Greater Role in Global Healthcare

Jadhav said the recognition of TCIM within the BRICS framework marks an important step towards integrating traditional medicine into efforts aimed at strengthening global healthcare systems.

He highlighted the potential of traditional medicine systems in supporting the goal of Universal Health Coverage, particularly as countries look for diverse approaches to improve access to healthcare.

India Pushes Traditional Medicine on Global Platform

The Ayush Minister said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian traditional medicine systems are gaining greater recognition at the global level.

The development is expected to provide a platform for greater international cooperation and knowledge-sharing among BRICS countries in areas related to traditional, complementary and integrative medicine.

The proposed Expert Working Group could further facilitate cooperation, expertise and discussions among member countries on the role of traditional medicine in strengthening healthcare systems.

What is Universal Health Coverage?

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) refers to a healthcare system in which people can access the health services they need without facing financial hardship. The inclusion of traditional and complementary medicine in the BRICS discussion indicates a broader approach towards achieving healthcare coverage and accessibility.

India has been advocating for greater global recognition and cooperation in the field of Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine, with the Ayush framework playing a key role in promoting these practices internationally.
